Lithuanian passport
Lithuanian passport is an official document, issued to Lithuanian citizens to identify themselves or to facilitate travel outside of Lithuania. Recently, a national Lithuanian identity card was introduced, which can be used in lieu of a national passport for travel solely within the European Union and other European countries such as Turkey and Switzerland. The passport book contains 32 pages and a polycarbonate personal data page, where personal data, a photograph, and signature are laser engraved. The passport is created according International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements. All data are written in Lithuanian, English, and French. The passports are issued to Lithuanian citizens upon a request and are valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children from 5 to 16 years. For younger children passports are valid for 2 years however period can be extended by special request up to 5 years.
Since August 28, 2006, the passport includes electronic biometric data. There is an RFID memory chip with an antenna. This chip stores the photograph and other data in electronic form.
Since January 1, 2008, the new type passports with burgundy-red cover are issued. These passports were created according to general European passport design requirements.
